What this map does — and does not claim

Each record is derived from Thom Aster’s exported article corpus. The key finding is drawn from the article subtitle or lead rather than invented as a new claim. Where a specific public place is strongly identified, the atlas plots that place. Where only a national scope is defensible, the marker is placed at a country-level reference coordinate and labelled accordingly.

Unmapped does not mean unimportant. Some investigations are global, conceptual or span too many jurisdictions to justify one pin. Those articles remain searchable in Archive view. The map is an index into the reporting, not a replacement for the reporting or its source trail.
